Joost Swarte made a luxury version of the book 'En toen De Stijl' with a linnen cover, in a limited edition of 100 signed and numbered copies and each book is accompanied by a (made for this book) original sketch. Price € 125.

In 2017 it is exactly 100 years since the launch of the Dutch art and design magazine ‘De Stijl’ (The Style), which was the start of the well-known art movement also known as The Style. Painters Theo van Doesburg, Piet Mondriaan and Bram van der Lek, and the architects Gerrit Rietveld, J.J.P.Oud were the best known artists of this movement and De Stijl’s iconic red, yellow and blue palette is still in vogue.
The Gemeentemuseum in The Hague is celebrating this event with four exhibitions and also the publication of a book in their series of picture books for children about art, and Joost Swarte was chosen to do the book about De Stijl. He drew 10 images of how he thought the studios of De Stijl’s artists would have looked like. The book is in Dutch but there isn’t much text and the images tell the stories.

You can order the book in our webshop.

In the coming year, we have the intention of making giclée prints of the 10 drawings Joost Swarte made for this book. We don’t know yet the exact size (50x50 cm or 60x60 cm) and which drawing we will start with.

You can get a good impression of the images at:
